Hi! My name is Jamie Salatino, and I am a School Counselor. This is my 15th year as a School Counselor in the Rochester City School District. Outside of school, I like to cook, garden, play games, and organize things. I have a 12-year-old daughter named Gianna, and a cat named Minibot.
The above image and welcome note were part of Jamie Lyn Heard-Salatino’s Rochester City School District e-mail signature—a colorful representation of Jamie, reflecting her passion for working with children and teens, and caring for people in her community. Jamie was a school counselor at Rochester's School Without Walls for 15 years, serving more than 260 students there. She was energetic and enthusiastic, helping to build and implement wellness programs, and serving as a grief counselor. She helped organize the school’s first career fair and led mentoring initiatives for the entire school district.
Jamie was gifted at nurturing and providing emotional, behavioral, and academic support for her students—and everyone else that came into her sphere of influence. She was a motivator and loved working with diverse communities. Jamie joined the Compeer Rochester Board of Directors in January of 2021, and quickly made an impact. She was admired by professionals for her dedication and compassion, and Compeer was thrilled to have a mental health professional on the board. We knew she was an amazing asset and worked closely with her until her untimely passing from lifelong health complications in April of 2021.
Jamie may not have received an award like this in her lifetime, but she was certainly deserving. Jamie’s memory will live on in all of us, and this award will allow other school-based health professionals to be her proxy in this important work.
Compeer Rochester is seeking nominations for the fourth annual Jamie Lyn Heard-Salatino Award to be honored in a special celebration scheduled for June 26, 2025. Event details to come. If you know a dedicated individual who should be honored, please complete the nomination form below by May 9, 2025.
