Volunteer Assistant / Intern for Adult Program
Compeer Rochester, Inc. is seeking a Program Intern for CompeerCORPS. CompeerCORPS provides volunteer veteran mentors to veterans in the community who could benefit from a supportive peer relationship. The Program Intern would gain experience working with local veterans while collaborating with the Veterans Outreach Center, the oldest non-profit for veterans in America.
Duties of the Program Intern would involve building rapport, maintaining weekly contact with, and supporting veterans who are waiting for a volunteer, and keeping written logs of conversations. Other tasks would include planning outings or small events for these individuals in order to engage them and get to know them better. The Program Intern must be able to positively connect with veterans over the phone, and in person if necessary.
Duties will include updating client files and enrolling clients into the OASIS program. Recruitment of volunteers and attending community meetings will also be expected.
This is an unpaid position. Applicant must have prior experience with or exposure to mental health issues in an educational, professional, and/or personal setting, and a willingness to obtain additional knowledge of the population. Military or military family experience is helpful. Applicant should also possess leadership skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and be a self-starter.
Compeer Rochester, Inc is seeking a Sports Mentoring Development Intern for an unpaid position. The Compeer Rochester program provides volunteer mentors to veterans, youth and adults in the community who could benefit from spending four hours a month with a community volunteer. The intern would gain experience at Compeer working with local sports teams and organizations to increase the male volunteer base and promote physical fitness. Duties would involve maintaining contact and support with participating organizations including the Rochester Rhinos, Rochester Red Wings and the Amerks. Key responsibilities will entail the organization of sports initiatives throughout the Rochester community. Intern is recommended to have a sports management, health science, sports studies (or related field) background. He/she must also be an active participant and facilitator of all sports initiatives.
