Compeer Rochester’s Day of Play and Cookout
This past Thursday, Compeer was lucky enough to celebrate the end of summer with our annual Day of Play and Cookout. The weather ended up cooperating and over a hundred clients, volunteers and Compeer staff were able to enjoy a day outside at Genesee Valley Park.
We started the day off with a park walk that hid us from the city and enveloped us in views of nature that we don’t regularly see here in Rochester. Next, our friends at Healthy Heroes helped us warm up for an afternoon of play with a few quick exercises and some interesting facts about fruits and veggies. After our warm up, our friends at the YMCA camp taking place next door came and payed us a visit. We all ended up playing a serious game of kickball that resulted in many close calls but plenty of fair sportsmanship and good comradery. Our friends at YMCA were great sports and we were so lucky to have them hang out with us that afternoon!
After we wore ourselves out from kickball, we all relaxed with a few board games, crafts, and some time at the playground. Shortly after, our adult clients and volunteers began to arrive for the cookout. We enjoyed some tasty hotdogs, baked beans from our very own Sticky Lips BBQ, and homemade pasta salad and chocolate chip cookies.
By the end of the evening, we were plenty worn out, but so thankful for everyone that continues to make Compeer the organization that it is. We were so happy to be able enjoy such a great day with all our clients and volunteers. We want to thank everyone who came out to make the event as fun as possible!
Hope to see you all there again next year!
